For many years, painting, walking my dog and spending time in woodlands have been the three things that have brought me the greatest sense of peace, hope and harmony. It seemed only natural to combine them into my working life.

Finding my artistic voice didn't happen overnight. I experimented with everything from figurative painting to abstraction, but although I learned a great deal, nothing truly felt like me.

​

Everything changed when two wonderful things happened at the same time. I moved into my studio at Long Eaton Art Room, and we welcomed Ella, our lively, cheeky Cocker Spaniel, into the family. She has become my constant companion, encouraging me out into the local woodlands every day.

​

Those walks transformed not only my painting but also the way I see the landscape. The woodlands became my sanctuary, and before long they began appearing more and more in my work.

​

As I explored these places, I became fascinated by the abundance of Silver Birch trees. Where were the ancient oaks, beeches and other broad-leaved trees? Whenever I found them, they were often young. That curiosity led me to discover the remarkable story of the Silver Birch.

​

As one of Britain's first pioneer trees after the last Ice Age, Silver Birch has an extraordinary ability to establish itself in difficult places. Today, it naturally colonises and is often planted in reclaimed and rewilded landscapes, creating the conditions for other trees, plants and wildlife to flourish. It represents resilience, renewal and hope—the very qualities that inspire my work.

I had found my muse.

Today I create contemporary woodland paintings inspired by these beautiful, ever-changing landscapes with an occasional wildlife painting of animals and birds that benefit from these special landscapes.

​

My hope is that each painting brings a little of the same peace, hope and harmony into your home that I experience whenever I step beneath the trees.
