Beautiful birds
These three paintings of birds represent for me very special moments in time:
'Waiting'
This painting tells the story of a memory of my Granddad. He loved Kingfishers and he would tell us about seeing them when he was in the countryside. How they would wait for long periods of time for the fish or for their mate to arrive.
It occurred to me that he too would have had to wait patiently to see his favourite bird.
So, when I saw a good reference photo, I couldn't resist. I had to paint this picture as a reminder of a special moment in time with my Granddad.
'Silence'
I have been lucky enough to see owls of many varieties in my lifetime and more so than many as my nephew worked with birds of prey and I had the pleasure of seeing him work with them. They are truly beautiful and have the spiritual essence of nature. When they are in flight there is this wonderful feeling of silence in the air. You find yourself holding your breath as they fly by. When I see an owl, it is always a very special moment in time.
'Patience'
I love watching Kestrels. They are elegant in flight and when they hunt and hover for what seems ages for their prey. I am always surprised when they suddenly dive down, sometimes successful and sometimes not. I can't help but stop for a moment and watch these beautiful birds.
